This project studied the biological characteristics, migratory distribution, biomass variation and rational utilization ofPenaeus chinensisin the Bohai Sea. The migration distribution and its relationship with environmental factors, variation of abundance, as well as feeding, growth and reproduction ofPenaeus chinensiswere clarified. The resource status, catchable quantity and fishing condition forecast ofPenaeus chinensiswere proposed. The catch ofPenaeus chinensisin autumn was successfully predicted with an accuracy of 81.2% verified by actual production. Based on comprehensive survey on the distribution of feeding population and changing pattern of the fishery in autumn, the fishing season ofPenaeus chinensiswas suggested to be shifted from spring to autumn, which increased annual production by 4,000 tons on average and achieved remarkable economic benefits. . A practical advice of “cultivating in spring, protecting in summer, fishing in autumn, and fighting in winter” was refined to guide production. This study provides important reference value for sustainable utilization ofPenaeus chinensis.
