Achievement Introduction:


The project group has accomplished the technical system of major flatfish genetic resources dissection, and high yield and disease-resistant germplasm creation. The project group has made achievements in whole genome map construction, molecular marker/gene selection for important traits, high yield and disease-resistant germplasm, and all-female germplasm creation.

1.The first whole genome sequencing for flatfish species (half-smooth tongue sole) has been completed; The genome structures of half-smooth tongue sole and Japanese flounder have been analyzed; 4,056 SSR were explored in 11 kinds of flatfish; The highest density SSR genetic linkage maps have been constructed in half-smooth tongue sole and Japanese flounder.

2. The sex specific SSR of half-smooth tongue sole has been selected and the technology of identifying the ZZ male, ZW female and WW super female has also been invented; There are 11 sex related genes that were cloned and characterized, for example dmrt1; dmrt1 is proved to be Z chromosome-linked and the key gene for testis development; The reason for low female ratio of tongue sole is uncovered and the technology of high female offspring production (increased by 20%) has been invented to solve this problem.

3. 31 immune and disease-resistant genes (hepcidin etc.) and 5 growth-related genes (PACAP etc.) in turbot, half-smooth tongue sole and Japanese flounder were cloned and characterized; The breeding technology of high yield and disease-resistant germsplasm has been invented and the first high yield and disease-resistant marine fish species-“Ping You No.1” has been created, with growth speed increased around 30% and growth survival rate increased over 20%.

4. The methods of the first cleavage inhibition and cleavage gynogenesis induction, and pure line construction in Japanese flounder have been invented to produce clonal line; The breeding technology for all female and high yield Japanese flounder has been developed and the first all-female and high yield species in marine fish-“Bei Ping No. 1”-has been created, with growth speed increased by 25%.

There are 145 papers published in this project, including 76 SCI papers. There are also one monograph, 18 patents, and 2 species obtained in this project. The application of “Ping You No.1”, “Bei Ping No. 1” and high female half-smooth tongue sole in several coastal provinces/cities of China, have generated significant economic and social benefits.
