Science and Technology Forum of Chinese Academy of EngineeringChinas high-end fish-farming model building and sustainable development held in Qingdao

On October 15-17, the 2014 Science and Technology Forum of Chinese Academy of Engineering’s Faculty of Agriculture, “China's high-end fish-farming model building and sustainable development" was held in Qingdao. This forum was sponsored by the Faculty of Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Engineering, and co-hosted by Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (YSFRI), Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, China Agriculture Research System of Flatfish, Freshwater fish, Tilapia and Key Laboratory of Sustainable Development of Marine Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture. Gao Zhong-qi, the secretary of the second bureau of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Qing, vice president of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and other leaders attended the forum and delivered speeches. Jin Xian-shi, the director of YSFRI, Kong Jie, deputy director of YSFRI and other experts attended the meeting. Opening ceremony was presided over by Jin Xian-shi.

This forum was convened in the new situation of comprehensively deepening reform, accelerating changes in the mode of economic growth and industrial transformation and upgrading. Around the "high-end model building and sustainable development of fish-farming," the central issues were about aquaculture seed industry, nutritional, disease prevention and control, environmental optimization, processing and quality and safety, marketing and logistics as well as to carry out research in areas such as industrial economy. Meanwhile, the deep engineering equipment, materials science, telecommunications, Internet of Things and intelligent management of high-tech and modern farming technology integration were emphasized highly. Based on the close co-operation with leading enterprises and the guidance of strategic studies, integration and demonstration, from theory to practice, systematic and comprehensive manner, the industrialized form of high-end fish farming mode will be build.

In the forum, the Conference Executive Chairman, chief scientist of the China Agriculture Research System of Flatfish, Academician Lei Ji-lin delivered a keynote report entitled "Integrated Systems Engineering to build the high-end fish farming industry". Professor Lei analyzed the development history of the world's fish farming industry and current situation, discussed the high-tech integrated of "four modernizations farming" and "six plates" of modern culture systems engineering, sketched the objective to build a high-culture model. He also forecasted that marine fish aquaculture production of China would rise to 300 million tons in 2030.

Academicians Lin Hao-ran, Mai Kang-sen and more than 20 well-known experts delivered thematic reports at the conference. After the thematic reports, a workshop around the key issues of "integration, demonstration and prospect of high-end fish farming mode" was held for scientists and entrepreneurs. According to statistics, there are more than 500 experts and scholars attended the forum. These delegates mainly come from more than 140 colleges, research institutions and enterprises, including Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Fujian Provincial Association for Science, Ocean University of China, Yantai Municipal Fisheries Research Institute and Jilin Provincial Academy of Fishery Sciences.
