On December 24, the Fishery Joint Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") built jointly by Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) and National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) of South Korea was formally established in the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (YSFRI). Prof. ZHANG Yin-quan, director of aquaculture laboratory at the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute (WSFRI), NFRDI of South Korea, Lee Du-ji, the Consul of the General Consulate of South Korea in Qingdao, LIU Ying-jie, director of the Center and vice president of the CAFS, Prof. JIN Xian-shi, director general of YSFRI, Prof. ZHAO Xian-yong, deputy director general of YSFRI, and Prof. WANG Qing-yin, former director general of YSFRI attended the listing ceremony. At the same time, Prof. KONG Jie, deputy director of the Center and deputy director general of YSFRI attended the listing ceremony simultaneously held at the WSFRI, NFRDI of South Korea.
JIN Xian-shi said in his welcome remarks that, YSFRI will actively carry out joint research, project applications, personnel trainings, academic exchanges and other related work of the Center in the future, to promote bilateral development of fisheries science and technology.
ZHANG Yin-quan made a speech on behalf of South Korea, wishing that by setting up the Center, both sides can fully utilize their respective advantages and achieve mutual benefit, sustainable development of fisheries between the two academies, and scientific and technological cooperation between two countries.
LIU Ying-jie said that, the Center will carry out research work in the fields of ecological protection and aquaculture in the Yellow Sea. The CASF will promote collaborative research work of the Center in terms of project, funding, personnel and experimental conditions.
Lee Du-ji underlined the great significance of establishing the Center, and said that it opened a new chapter in China-South Korea cooperation in fisheries science and technology, and promised that Korean Consulate General in Qingdao will provide support for the Center, and for cooperation and development of the two countries.
According to the constitution and program of the Center, the joint Center is anchored both in the YSFRI and the WSFRI. The establishment of the Center will become a new milestone for mutual exchanges and cooperation between CAFS and NFRDI.
